Quarter 2 Week 4

Galileo Testing
3rd Grade benchmark testing will take place on Tuesday. This will give us some growth data from the initial test in August. Please send your child to school full from breakfast and well rested!

Uniform Exchange
The PSO normally has a uniform exchange to help families with putting together concert attire, but they needed to move the date of the exchange for the Prep's awesome playoff game! Unfortunately, the exchange is now after the concert, Nov. 20th. If you would like to use the uniform exchange, please email Deanna Carpenter at uniformexchangepso@gmail.com

Winter Concert
The dress attire for the Winter concert will be as follows:

Boys: Black pants, white dress shirt, black dress shoes, and black socks. Hair should be combed neatly.

Girls: Black skirt, white top, black tights, and black dress shoes. Hair should be pulled away from the face with no distracting adornment. Please follow the Archway Arete dress code for guidelines on jewelry.

Homework Survey
I have reviewed the results from our homework survey. It looks like most are experiencing homework times within the Academy Expectations. The only concerns were regarding math homework taking a long time. In my class, students are usually given 10-20 minutes to begin math homework and always when there is more than 4 pages. This is because I am using the workbook pages as classwork, rather than the textbook problems. This allows many children to get a head start, and many even finish in class. If you find that your child's homework is taking a long time, please have them do every other problem, or even cut them off once you think they have had enough practice. Always write me a note in these instances though, so I can take that into account for their homework grade. Let me know if you have any questions!

Academics
Language Arts: Please bring in The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe as we start reading on Wednesday. There will be a normal set of spelling words this week. We will work on some more diagramming skills in grammar.

Math: We are working on 8 facts this week. There will be a quiz on Monday (6&7 facts) and Friday (8 facts). Don’t forget to practice multiplication flashcards at home regularly! Can you volunteer for math groups Wednesday morning? Sign up here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080a4da4a629a1fa7-wednesday

History: Students will continue their study of the Roman empire by being introduced to the republic form of government and the two groups of government officials: Patricians and Plebeians. The United States’s founding fathers modeled the early government on the Roman’s republic form of government. Continuing to recognize the innovations and ingenuity of Roman engineers.

Science: This week, students will learn about the skeletal system. Please encourage your children to study the bones of the skeletal system for a test in the upcoming weeks.
