Quarter 2 Week 1

Welcome back, scholars! Please be advised that every school day is a half day this week to accommodate the conference schedule. There will be no lunch time in school all week, so pack a hearty snack!
If you haven’t already, please sign up for a conference here: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0f4da4ae2fa0fe3-quarter1

Language Arts:
To accommodate the short days, there will be no spelling this week! We will be focusing on reading comprehension skills, summarizing, and grammar. The new concept this week is the direct object. We will not begin our new literature book this week, but will rather enjoy excerpts from The Wind and The Willows as a read aloud. The new poem Catch A Little Rhyme by Eve Merriam will be assigned this week as well.

Math:
To start off the second quarter, in math, we will begin developing division skills. Long division is up and coming so please be available to support with homework! We are having math groups on Wednesday per usual. There will be a quiz on Friday after a short review.

Science:
We will kick off the new quarter with our human body unit.  This week we will be taking a look at cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems.  This quarter we study three important organ systems: skeletal, muscular, and nervous system.  This week’s introduction will get the students prepared for these exciting systems.  A study guide will be coming home on Thursday for a very short quiz that will take place next Tuesday!

History:

This week in history we will continue to learn about Ancient Rome! We will look at the roles the Roman gods and goddesses played in the lives of the Ancient Romans. We will also be taking a look at some of the Roman myths and discussing the morals and virtues associated with the myths.
