Quarter 1 Week 3

Hi 3B Families,
It has been a great week! We ended the day on Friday with a high note, enjoying a dance party to a music video about the scientific classification taxonomy system! Learning can be fun!
Here are two important things to note:

Graded Work
The work that we have graded and checked into the gradebook is coming home today. You will get a small glimpse of some things we have been working on. Lots of handwriting! There is one graded math quiz therein for you to review as well. Attached to the packet is a half-sheet. This details the quiz score from math and their participation grades. This will always come home with the packet so you can see at a glance how your child did on their assessments and how they are doing in class. I am attaching the rubric that I use to grade participation so you can better understand the SLANT expectations. Please sign and return the slip on Monday. You can keep all of the graded work.

Volunteers
You should have received an email on Tuesday morning from our Class Mom, Mrs. Weinhausen. If you did not receive it, please reach out to her! (samweinhausen@gmail.com)
We need volunteers ASAP from Math Groups https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080a4da4a629a1fa7-wednesday
The sign ups allow you to plan in advance for when you can volunteer and even connect to your calendar so please check it out!

Language Arts: This week we will continue working on our Spalding rule pages. Wednesday we will learn 12 new words that will be tested on Friday. For grammar we will continue to learn about the different parts of speech as a review. Our first literature book is Pinocchio. Your child must have the book to participate in literature. We are currently memorizing “The Bee” by Isaac Watts. Children should review it a bit daily at home. Recitations will be on Wednesday the 28th.

Math: We will continue to work on Addition and Subtraction skills with a focus on mental math strategies. There will be a quick Quiz on Monday to check for understanding after the lesson. Later in the week we will turn our focus to word problems and bar models. If you can volunteer for Wednesday math groups this week, please sign up at this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080a4da4a629a1fa7-wednesday

History: In Geography, the students will be locating the capitals of all 50 states, identifying natural and man made borders, recognizing similarities and differences in political and physical maps. In addition, they will also be locating Arizona on the United States map and naming the different landforms found on physical maps.

Science: This week we will be performing our skits to the class. Students will learn the differences and similarities between the vertebrates; mammals, reptiles, fish, amphibians, and birds.
