Quarter 1 Week 2

Wow, week 1 was a blast! I had so much fun getting to know your children and showing them the ropes of third grade. We still have a lot of work to do on procedures and daily transitions, but I know that we will get there with practice. The fastest time we were able to line up this week was 20 seconds. That is impressive! It seems that the class is enjoying the classroom economy and earning dollars through exemplary behavior. I love rewarding their hard work in tangible ways. I look forward to another great week and establishing a strong classroom culture together.
Class Mom: Our class mom this year will be Ms. Weinhausen. Expect to hear from her about volunteer opportunities and various school announcements.

Language Arts:We will work on Spelling this week with a focus on the phonograms 1-70. Please review phonograms nightly as we will do an assessment on them Friday. For grammar we will continue to learn about the different parts of speech as a review. Our first literature book is Pinocchio. Your child must have the book to participate in literature.

Math: We will work on rounding this week. Pay careful attention to your child’s homework because students often need support with this skill. There will be a Unit 1 test on Thursday, after we review on Wednesday.

Science: This week in Science, we will explore the seven levels of the classification system. Students will also be learning more about Vertebrates through some fun group activities!

History: This week students will be labelling a compass with cardinal and intermediate directions. In addition, they will take a close look at the continent of North America and will identify the names of the countries and their capital cities. Also, which oceans border our continent. Borders will be labeled and discussed as well as using directions to describe the countries relationships with one another.
